In her own words:
There’s not much about parenthood, and motherhood in particular, that hasn’t stunned me. It’s been mind-boggling to go through phases of life that millions of women have gone through before me, and yet not one person accurately explained, described, or educated me about them in advance. More than anything, parenthood has solidified the deep wisdom that humans were meant to hold each other up; there is no such thing as other people’s children.
I am Jaime Fisher, a 41 year old mom of 4 kids (and sometimes more through foster care). My kids are 10, 13, 14, and 16- yes, the first three were three and under ☠️. I am married and have been for almost 20 years. What I do for work has changed every year for the last 6 years, but I currently work at a restaurant, a small family-owned business where I do all of the jobs. I was a full time stay-at-home parent for 12 years.
Fun Fact: I had two home births, one where the midwives didn’t arrive in time, and my husband and I delivered a baby by ourselves. I ride a unicycle. I apply to games shows as a side hustle. I’ve been on two :)
About the game shows I've been on: 100k pyramid, I won $50k and a vacation!
I filmed a long-term reality-style show done by the producers of The Biggest Loser, which never aired. They wanted another progress-oriented show. It was supposed to be called ordinary to extraordinary, where each contestant chose a long-time dream (dancing, piano playing, trapeze, etc.) and trained with professionals, teachers, and coaches for months. The finale was supposed to be a bit like America’s Got Talent where America votes on who “improved” the most and gave the best performance. I trained in figure skating and serendipitously often trained at the same time and the same ice, as Nathan Chen, who at the time was the men’s world champion. It was unreal.
What do you wish you knew before having kids?
Just how physically and emotionally challenging motherhood could be.
What advice would you give your best friend?
Set personal boundaries, prioritize self-care, and don't afraid to advocate for one’s own needs.
